OVERVIEW
The Employment Act 1955, enacted in Malaysia, is a foundational piece of legislation that governs the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees. In 2022, the Act underwent significant amendments to align with evolving workplace dynamics, address modern labor issues, and strengthen protections for employees. These changes reflect a growing recognition of the need for greater work-life balance, gender equality, and improved working conditions. By expanding the Act’s coverage and introducing progressive provisions such as extended maternity leave, paternity leave, and flexible work arrangements, the 2022 amendments aim to create a fairer and more inclusive work environment, ensuring that Malaysian labor laws remain relevant in today’s economic landscape
